Nice to Meet You

Hello, I’m Rich. I grew up in Central Ohio and graduated with a degree in Mathematics & Economics from Denison University. I then received my law degree Summa Cum Laude from Capital University Law School. At Capital, I was an Associate Editor of the Capital University Law Review.

What Drives Me

Early in my legal career, I was drawn to the area of estate planning because of the ability to assist and work directly with individuals and families.  Ultimately, I provide peace of mind.  My clients come to me motivated to provide for their family in the most responsible and efficient manner possible.  They leave knowing that when the time comes, they will have the right system in place to enable their families to continue to thrive in their absence.

Much of my practice also focuses on estate and trust administration after death.  At a time of great loss for a family, I provide comfort by simplifying the complex process of transferring assets and unwinding affairs.  I advise clients through this difficult and confusing time by providing clear and thoughtful advice and recommendations.

Pricing

No fear of the downtown law firm fees here. I still perform the same quality work I did at the downtown law firms, but I cut my hourly rate by over one-third of what it was before. Also, with most estate plans you won’t have to worry with uncertainty about what the final cost of my services will be, because I offer flat-fee pricing at the beginning of the engagement.  In other situations, I will provide an estimated range for fees to give you an idea of the final cost ahead of time.

What to Expect

I’ve drafted thousands of wills and trusts and administered dozens of estates at the biggest of Columbus law firms. The law—and how it can be used to protect and benefit your family—is the same here. You’ll receive that same high quality legal work as before, but I get to be more flexible and can get the job done at a better cost for you.

How I Work

My goal is for you to feel 100% comfortable as a client. I will be up front about cost and make sure that you understand the purpose and scope of the work. Transparency is key for me. I also make it a practice to respond to client inquiries within 24 hours. That may seem like common courtesy, but lack of responsiveness is a common complaint regarding attorneys and one that I want to change.

A Story Worth Knowing

The practice of law is so much more to me than solving complicated problems and preparing legal documents. I wanted to create a practice that functions as much on good relationships as it does on doing good work. My purpose is to provide care and peace of mind for every family I work for. Here’s a story that explains what I mean:

My client’s friend called me from the hospital. The client wasn’t expected to make it much longer, and it was a heartbreaking situation. The client had a young daughter who without proper planning would have received everything outright at age 18, but the client knew that was too young for her daughter to have control of her inheritance. I met with the client in her hospital room, and we went through a detailed plan that addressed every detail, from who would manage her daughter’s inheritance to when her daughter could take control over her inheritance. I returned the next day with documents for the client to sign. Sadly, she passed away only a few days later, but she did so knowing that she was leaving behind something that will take care of her daughter in the right way for years to come.
